Love that song. 

I've never done a deep dive but I'd wager that "surf rock" had an oversized influence on popular music and pop culture, compared to its actual tenure as being truly mainstream and popular.

Never heard of them but the local college station really spins some hidden gems. From across the years and genres, did I spell that right? 😁Along with station across the lake in Ontario,same-same.

Hard to pick....he has so many excellent ones I love.  But that is definitely one of them.

Since we were talking about Tim Capello's scene in The Lost Boys on the B10 thread and utee mentioned it originally being The Call's song, it made me think of the version I was first familiar with by Russ Taff.  It took out Michael Been's cool bass slides, but it has Jeff Porcaro on hi-hat (but not the rest of the drums), so that automatically boosts it 10 points, and I think it's hard to outdo Taff vocally.  Though Been's original is very strong.  Capello's version is the most vanilla of the bunch, but his has the cool sax solos, so there's that.

Seeing Surf Rock mentioned up above....Late 70's there was a made for TV movie about Jan & Dean, loved those guys.  Then I saw a TV ad for one of those compilation albums, and my Mom bought it for me.  I knew every one of these, well.
