Yellow Rose is still around I think.

There used to be three, same owners.  The Red Rose and the Yellow Rose in Austin, and the Wild Rose in San Marcos.  Only the Yellow Rose remains.

Since we're on strip clubs, this one is getting play by lots of youngsters discovering Whiskey Myers.  Putting up the original, because the lead singer tries to get funky with it live.  Just sing the song, Cody!

My old lady bought me a hat inspired by the song, have to be going to the right type of event to wear it comfortably, when it has a lady and stripper pole depicted.

While we're at it here's another novelty song from 1974 that didn't do too bad

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REQ1YqYLi4g&list=RDXtzoUu7w-YM&index=5

The very next day we picked a bunch of them weeds
And we put 'em in the sun to dry
Then we mashed 'em up and we cleaned 'em off
Put 'em in the corn cob pipe
Smokin' them wildwood flowers got to be a habit
We never seen no harm
We thought it was kinda handy
Take a trip and never leave the farm

First heard this when I was about 13 waiting outside to be seated at a restaurant...it was playing on the restaurant's music system.  I remember thinking "I'm not much for country, but this song kicks a lot of ass."  Feels like what Sting would've been doing if he were a thing in 1959, and did country.

EDITED to note, this version is missing some official lyrics:

Just for a moment, I stood there in silence

Shocked by the foul evil deed I had done
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there
I had but one chance and that was to run

Love that song, and love Marty Robbins in general.

It is of course pedantry, but technically I'd classify that song as "western" rather than "country."  They have distinct sounds, and although you could argue that western is a subgenre of country, I'd reply that there's a reason the whole deal is referred to as "Country and Western" music.

And "El Paso" is pretty much the archetype for a western epic storytelling ballad.

Now that they're on my mind, here's a couple of examples of some Sting songs I've always thought were sort of spiritual successors to songs like Robbins' El Paso.  Lyrically, but also the musical influence of Western is there.....as much as it can be for a British guy, anyway.  These continued a trend for him where the music is fairly happy but the lyrics are darker than you think, if you're not paying attention.

And here's one where he outright said he was trying to write a country song.  Again, the purity is tainted by his Britishness, but that doesn't mean I don't like the final product.
