Of course John Williams is great.  He's the dad of long-time Toto singer Joseph Williams :)

I believe we've posted this recently, but since 320 brought up John Williams and me and Mrs. DeT just watched the 1978 Christopher Reeve Superman movie last weekend, this is on my mind because "Superman March" is my most favorite John Williams composition ever.

As a band nerd, a drama nerd, and a Star Wars nerd, obviously John Williams is among those at the top of my list of total badasses.

Ennio Morricone:

One of the reasons that "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" seems to plod with really longs scenes is that the director Sergio Leone was so in awe of Morricone's score that he ran the camera longer just to avoid cutting off the music.

Of course, I'm also an aficionado of the Giallo and *sploitation genres.

iconic final line from that occurs when a reporter tells Eliot Ness that Prohibition is likely to be repealed, asking what he will do then. Ness responds, "I think I'll have a drink"

I love both of these songs, and both of these bands.  I'd never really thought about how similar they sound, that's interesting.

I think some people refer to this genre as "post-grunge" although I'm not sure what really fits into that category.  Regardless, these two bands, along with folks like Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms, Toad The Wet Sprocket, and the Wallflowers, are among my favorites from the mid 90s.
Ya this small station about 25 miles away I can barely get in played them back to back. I knew Iris was from the GGDs but not sure of the Collective Soul hit. Which I had heard plenty of times just didn't know the tune or band's name. That's because like I'm stuck between your dad's music and yours - man
