I had a pretty big celebrity crush on Hope Sandoval.  I actually saw them play a small but famous on-campus music venue called the Cactus Cafe' in '91 or '92, somewhere around there.  I was dating a girl who was really into them, and I think we BOTH wanted to hook up with Hope that night.  Worked out pretty well for me anyway.

Being a big "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fan, I always referred to the stuff continuously playing in their fictional teen plus bar "The Bronze" as "Ovo-Rock". 
Slow, ethereal, non-defined rhythmic chick stuff.
