Yup that's on the album version, which of course I own. It always made me mad it wasn't on the radio release or video release. Brilliant work.
I don't have the album, but that song was just kinda always around while I was growing up. Probably radio, maybe I saw a music video, don't remember. Then one day when I was in college I was laying in bed almost asleep, with the radio on, and they played the full version. The different ending jumped out at me because I knew I'd heard that song a hundred times before, but never heard that. It jolted me fully awake, but because of the dreamy state I'd been in, it left me wondering did I really hear that, or did I dream it?
The next day I talked to one of my buddies, the main guitarist I was playing with back then, and asked him about that song, did it have a "secret" ending, and if he'd ever heard it. He stared at me blankly for a few seconds, and then with a look and a tone that might as well have patted me on the head, scratched me behind the ears, and patronizingly cooed "Good boy! Yes you
are a good boy!" at me, he proceeded to tell me, yes, the guy's name is Nuno Bettencourt, it is the "real" ending to the song, and he is a well-known commodity amongst serious guitar players.
I don't remember if he
actually shook his head at me and said "Let's don't ever tell anybody you didn't know this, okay?" as he walked away, but that's what it felt like.
