My 18yo GenZ daughter was blasting this whilst getting ready for school this morning.  Proud papa moment.

Roasted 2 hogs and 10 kegs of beer ran out at midnight

Roasted hawg seems like more of a UT thing to do than a Husker thing, but what do I know.

Completely OT, the neighbors across the street have two giant hogs, which is a pretty irregular animal for a neighborhood.  I think the guy's daughter is in 4-H and it has something to do with that.  I see her loading them up a lot of weekends into a trailer, I guess to go show them.  Every time I see them out front, I want to go say to the guy "So......what's the plans for them once she's done?  We gonna get the rotisserie spit and do this, or what?"

Hawaiians seem to enjoy it as well!

Another one of the first videos I ever recall seeing.  Having always been a sucker for a ballad, I was probably inclined to be interested in this one no matter what.  But on top of that, the lyrics broke my tiny childhood brain.....he kept saying this might be their last goodbye....I was like everybody just stop, work it out, no need for all this sadness!  lolz......kids.

Oh yeah, Europe is about as glam rock/hair metal as you can get.  Final Countdown is an epic banger for that genre.

"The Final Countdown" made me think of other stuff out of that era.

From the "pointless bits of pointlessness" division comes Gorky Park:

Ha! I still listen to a lot of hair metal but I haven't thought of that song in almost 40 years!

Man I could go on for days on hair metal, but I'd probably be the only one that really enjoyed it.

Rather, I'll reminisce along the same lines as MDT and think about the earliest music videos I can recall.  I'm a little older so I remember when MTV first started airing, and indeed I also remember the predecessors to it, which was HBO's video jukebox shorts and some other rando shows that aired music videos, mostly late-night.  We didn't have cable until 1981 so I'd go over to my friends' houses to watch HBO, but by the time MTV started up, we had it.  Some of the songs I remember being on near-constant rotation back in 81/82:

Nah, I'm always up for hair metal.  One of my favorite genres.  And the big plus side for me is I pretty much missed it in real time.  My catalog is largely confined to the stuff that survived pretty well into the late 90's, when is when I really discovered that older stuff.  I mean, I was aware it was a thing when I was a kid, but nobody was buying me albums, I often didn't have access to MTV, and I just wasn't old enough to be way into anything.  So it wasn't until later, when I could make and spend my own money, that I wandered into that scene, with the help of some musician friends in high school who told me I should check it out.  Also, some of it was a reaction on my part.....a rebellion against the angsty, nihilistic, grooveless grunge that was thrust on me in middle and high school, a lot of which I never learned to like.  But the trick is, when you're playing catch-up after the fact, you wind up with a lot of Greatest Hits type stuff, and even that only from the bands who's name recognition survived well past their prime.

So there's still a ton of stuff from that era that I've never even heard.  Hair metal binges can only bring me happiness.  I'm here for it.

Alright I have a couple of minutes this afternoon, to indulge MDT.

I'm gonna assume you're pretty well-acquainted with the most common top tier of glam rock/hair metal, who I'd say are: Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison, and Guns N Roses.

Van Halen gets an honorary lifetime achievement award here because although I don't consider them to be hair metal, in many ways they're a co-founder of the entire genre and you better believe any and every mixtape I've ever made focused on hair metal, absolutely had some Van Halen on it.

If you don't know all those guys I'm happy to post up my favorite examples from them, but in the interest of having a little fun, I'm going to try to find some lesser known hair metal bands/songs that you might not know.

Here's one that I consider to be pretty obscure, but you might have heard it because its been used as a backing track for various movie scenes over the years.
