good way to start the day

Indeed.  Y'all left some winners over the weekend for me to pick up on this morning.

Greg Rolie on vocals.  I often forget that he co-founded both Santana and Journey.  And that Journey had an entire era prior to what I think of as "Journey," with him on vocals and keys, before Steve Perry and Jonathan Cain ever got in the mix.

Don't usually post live cuts, but I have the live album this comes from and it's the version on my mind.  Bass player gets a nice solo in the middle.  Drummer has an attack of testosterone near the end.

Yeah my brother's 5 years older than I am so I grew up listening to "old" Journey plus "new" Journey.  It's all good to me.

The very first rock band I ever fell in love with, was Styx.  They're still in my top 10 all-time.

They had two eras as well, the pre-Tommy Shaw, and then post.  I like both eras pretty much equally but they can definitely sound like two different bands to folks that aren't familiar.

A favorite of mine from their first phase:

I generally like Styx's music and dislike Dennis DeYoung's voice.  The more instrumental they get, the better I like them.  His is the only voice I associate with Styx, so if I've heard Tommy Shaw, I probably didn't know I was listening to Styx.  I'd have to look up his songs with them.

Loved that song in college, but I still want to know how an ugly mug like Ravi Shankar produced a cutie like Norah Jones.  Her mom must've been smoking hot.

You've almost certainly heard some of the Tommy Shaw lead vocal songs.

Some famous ones:

After Styx broke up, Tommy Shaw went on to help create the superband Damn Yankees along with Ted Nugent and Jack Blades from Night Ranger.

A couple of their hits:
