I kinda missed the whole 1970's KISS thing.  All I remember is that by the 1980's it seemed so....weird.  They had largely fallen off the charts.  I didn't understand then, and I still don't understand, that whole costume get-up whatever that is.  As far as I remember, they really didn't transition to the MTV age, and I don't think they had any hits past the 70's, unlike other 70's acts who remained relevant well into the MTV age like Aerosmith and Tom Petty.

Kiss wasn't the most talented band but they shook things up with the makeup and raw guttural tracks

I had a couple of their albums in the 70's.  My mother absolutely hated them!

My brother who is 5 years older, was into KISS in the late 70s and early 80s, so of course I was too.

It's funny, listening to them now, their "heavy" tracks are fairly bubble-gum-rock-ish by more modern standards.

But they wore crazy makeup and spit blood so my parents were convinced they were THE DEVIL. :)

Saw them live several times. "Animalize", and a couple of their "Greatest Hits" type tours.

The music is fairly simplistic, played by talented but not virtuoso musicians.

What I'll say is that, every time, they gave the audience a show! Stuff flying. Musicians flying. Stuff exploding. Stage energy. They always unloaded everything they had, and let the audience know how appreciated it was. I always left knowing I had a great time, and it was worth the (ever increasing) money.

As a middle class white kid growing up in a tightly belted Baptist town, I tried to make my music choices as offensive as possible. KISS, Ozzy, 2 Live Crew. Fortunately, my dad had a previous family where his oldest son was a free spirit hellion that I could never hope to match. He just sighed and waited for it to burn itself out.

I owned Kiss Smashes, Thrashes, and Hits, and saw them in concert circa 1991, in the sans makeup phase.  Was a great show, but what the hell did I know back then?

Going to see Blackberry Smoke in Wichita on the 13th.  Saw them open for Skynyrd on a reservation near the 4 corners 15 years ago and have been a fan ever since.

We're pretty lucky in this little berg I live in now, on I-70 5 hours from Denver and 4 from KC, get a lot of good acts here that are on the way somewhere else.  Eli Young Band is here this week, but I've been to the last 3 years of them, so we're going to the lake instead.
