But heck, if we're gonna do 90s alternative dream-rock bands with cute lead singer chicks, then I have to bring up this one too:

I'll still never forget the day Stevie Ray died.

I was driving down to campus, from my folks' house to my dorm.  I turned on the radio and they were playing SRV and that was cool and I rocked out.  Then they played another SRV song and I was like, wow, I guess they're doing Two-fer Tuesday.  Except it was a Monday.  Then they played another SRV song right as I was pulling up to my parking space and I just stopped the car, slumped down in my seat, and thought to myself "fuck, I think Stevie Ray Vaughn just died."

I was new in Austin at the time, and was taking time to randomly drive around the city just to see what it was all about. I'd heard of SRV before, but if it wasn't ultra-rapid fretboard hammer-ons or power chords, it didn't really reach my radar. I wanna say I was on MoPac either heading to Barton Creek Mall or finding out that "Loop 1" was in fact "J-1" when the radio made the announcement. Didn't really register to me at the time, but seemed like a big deal to the radio guys.

Years later, my tastes had changed. I'd buy "The Sky is Crying" to learn how to play "Life by the Drop" in the days before YouTube videos.

the 1st time i remember hearing him was around '83. Guy who played on a softball team sponsered by the bar we frequented (seems every team was sponsored by a pub) was playing Texas Flood in his car cassette player. I immediately asked who the hell was that.I was a big fan of Roy Buchanon,Jeff Beck,Rory Gallagher,Clapton and Duane Allman. This Guy knew all about SRV and I missed his '89 concert at the old Public Hall in Cleveland with Jeff Beck :banghead:. Damn shame of it all was he came out with "In Step" not long before he passed and was really getting it together. i didn't know john barleycorn had his hooks into him and he was shaking all of that.

Well in tribute to Major League Beisbol starting to "PAY BALL" John Foggerty is on Deck
