Saw them live several times. "Animalize", and a couple of their "Greatest Hits" type tours.
The music is fairly simplistic, played by talented but not virtuoso musicians.
What I'll say is that, every time, they gave the audience a show! Stuff flying. Musicians flying. Stuff exploding. Stage energy. They always unloaded everything they had, and let the audience know how appreciated it was. I always left knowing I had a great time, and it was worth the (ever increasing) money.
As a middle class white kid growing up in a tightly belted Baptist town, I tried to make my music choices as offensive as possible. KISS, Ozzy, 2 Live Crew. Fortunately, my dad had a previous family where his oldest son was a free spirit hellion that I could never hope to match. He just sighed and waited for it to burn itself out.
