Mack Brown's defense SUCKED
I saw some highlights.  Or lowlights.  Soft butter vs. hot knife at times.

Upthread I mentioned Patrick Fields, the defensive MVP for the Alamo Bowl.

‘Forever a Sooner’: Safety Pat Fields heading to Stanford on a full academic Scholarship

Thu, December 30, 2021, 10:38 PM·1 min read

Wrapping up a senior season that saw him win first-team academic All-American honors, safety Pat Fields announced via his Twitter account that he’ll be heading west to study management science and engineering at Stanford University. He’s received a full academic scholarship to attend the esteemed university in California.

Fields, who started “Town Business,” a financial literacy seminar with the mission of instructing student-athletes on money management, budgeting, credit, and personal branding. In collaboration with the OU National Black Alumni Association, he created the Black Wall Street Foundation to provide scholarships for underrepresented and lower-income students from Tulsa.

For the 2021 season, Fields was elected one of the captains to represent the Oklahoma Sooners along with Jeremiah Hall, Caleb Kelly, Isaiah Thomas (who was added later), and Spencer Rattler.

For the Oklahoma Sooners this season, Fields set career highs in tackles, tackles for loss, and interceptions. His leadership and consistency provided the stability that the Oklahoma secondary needed as it dealt with injuries and inexperience at cornerback.

In the Oklahoma Sooners 47-32 win over the Oregon Ducks in the Alamo Bowl, Pat Fields was named the defensive MVP after leading the Sooners with six solo tackles and added a tackle for loss.
As I may have posted earlier, he's not a hugely gifted athlete.  He's a smart guy who plays smart and hard.  He was not playing for a shot at the NFL.  He was playing for a college education so that he can accomplish his goals in life.  He's already earned his masters degree at OU and will I guess earn another one at Stanford.

He's from Tulsa.  Went to school in the independent "Union" school district, which has one of the powerhouse 6A (highest level) football programs in the state.  It's the archrival to where my stepkids went to school, Jenks, an even more powerful powerhouse football factory.

"Yuck!" is right.
However, mayo washes off.  The W and the L are there forever.

WTH happened to Michigan?  Did the team that beat Ohio State trade uniforms with some high school team?

What have we had--maybe 2 good semifinal games since the CFP began?

But, hey, let's expand to a 12-team playoff!  That'll fix everything!

Well, Fearless, your brother won that one.  Houston pretty much controlled that game.

Taco Tech made Mike Leach's Bulldogs look pathetic.  A one-trick-pony coach like Mike Leach can only take you so far.

WVU was pretty punchless against Minnie-Soda last night.

Former OU QB Dean Blevins, who has spent his post-college days as a sports media person, says that Oregon is sandbagging, that the "31 Ducks won't play" is misleading at best.

I guess we'll see tonight.

Before that, we'll see disgruntled-and-bleeding-players-to-the-portal Iowa State against Clemson, which has lost about half its coaching staff, including both coordinators.

The SEC is 0-4 in bowl games at this point.
3-5 today.

I must congratulate Oklahoma State for a great comeback victory over Notre Dame yesterday.  One of my stepsons is an oSu grad, and when I texted him my congratulations, he texted back with a picture of him and a couple of buddies at the game.

Little Big Matt would be in Poke Heaven today.

Maybe he is anyway.

Baylor's defense just dominated that game.  Once the offense got going in the 4th quarter, Ole Miss was just unable to respond.

Baylor blasting Ole Miss and Tech blasting Miss State was a bad look for the SECSECSEC, that's for sure.

Add to that OU whipping the team many believed was the best in the PAC and Oklahoma State beating the vaunted domers in dramatic fashion, and it was a pretty good year for the B12 in bowls.  Best win% of all major conferences.
