Speaking of beer, on Saturday for Father's Day, my i s c &  aggie wife and my kids are taking me on a brewery crawl.  We'll hit Live Oak, of course, but then we'll also go to a couple other favorites including Meanwhile Brewing (which has an awesome BBQ food truck on site) and St. Elmo Brewing.

Movie audiences next summer may view the historic drama of the bloody fight over alcohol sales in Iowa City. They may even watch “Death of a Brewer” over a cold beer at their local brewery.
“It’s our goal that every beer lover across the world is going to see our movie,” said Doug Alberhasky, the film’s producer and third-generation owner of John’s Grocery in Iowa City. “It’s a love story, it’s espionage, and it’s all true.”
Shooting starts next month in Quincy and Galena, Ill., Iowa City, and Dubuque. Alberhasky said about half of the two-hour film’s scenes will be shot in Iowa City, at the Old Capitol, the legendary Black Angel monument at Oakland Cemetery, and in what’s left of the beer caves where three local brewers once aged their lagers.

Junior, I drank a few Trappistes Rocheforts this past weekend.  Undoubtedly the best beer I've ever tasted.
I miss JCG.  This was the first post on this thread, almost 7 years ago.

FF can youdig another link up on that as that one is "forbidden" - damn prohibitionists.I know in the 1800's Brewers would go out onto the Great Lakes and cut blocks of ice from a frozen lake or adjoining river during the winter then stored the blocks in an insulated(usually sawdust) or subterranean building called an "Ice House." Ice houses were designs to keep ice frozen through the summer so it could be used at any time of the year. Some areas had adjacent caves/caverns that were convenient also
