Henrik Zetterberg announced his retirement today, it's a shame he didn't get to go out on better terms. I know his back had gotten bad, and was hoping he could at least come back and play in a few games in Februayr or March to get the send off he deserves. Oh well. Kronwall is really the only guy left from Phase II of the Red Wings Golden Era, and he was never really a face. Phase I was the Yzerman/Federov/Shanahan group, with Phase II being the Datsyuk/Zetterberg group, Lidstrom as the bridge between the two.
They've been stuck with one foot in the past and one in the future for like 5 years now. I was hoping they were simply held hostage by the playoff streak, and once that broke they'd commit to rebuilding, but doesn't seem to be that way thus far.
