He didn't bother interviewing Trevon obviously who is the center of his story.Something's fucked when you fail to gather facts and post them as such.If it got to a jury I believe they would shove it up his ass regardless of what a judge suggests or the law implies - it was a lie and wrong. It was slander pure and simple

Oh, it's a crap story. But the burden necessary to prove it's a crap story is easy. This isn't even a grain of sand closer to proving defamation.

If nothing else I’d sue because it’d cost McMurphy money or time, pay for a lawyer unless he’s got some type of insurance.

Z Smith is a douche, urban is an A hole by most people’s standards and McMurphy is an idiot for not trying to find a 2nd source to corroborate when there had to be at least 15 people to check with, including the subject himself.

Completely agree. This is one of the things I was trying to get at above when I typed that even though a defamation case is doomed to fail at trial, it could be worth it in terms of trying to pinch or intimidate McMurphy.

So you agree McMurphy didn't corroborate when that was basically what I was saying and I see why in this case it is indeed prosecutable when he didn't do his homework and ran with slanderous rancor

I'm saying McMurphy wrote a sloppy article and skipped pursuing obvious sources.
This is not the same thing as a 100.00% chance that he knowingly lied to intentionally hurt Urban Meyer, which is why defamation is a nonstarter.
Calling him v. bad at his job this week is an easy-to-starter. Entirely different.

Considering how desperate ESPN is to seek clicks, I can only imagine the position of a start up like Stadium.  I wouldn't bet against him being told to do this.  This is his/their "thing" now, and the lengths to which they are going to try and give it legs is actually turning me away from Stadium before it ever even gets going.  I figured it would happen eventually, I haven't watched ESPN for anything other than live sports (and the occasional Gameday in the background) in probably a decade.  Every time I think some new media source is going to go high and take a different angle they let me down.  We heard that with NBCSN, and while I guess they sort of have, they've also avoided seemingly anything but soccer and hockey.  We hoped with FS1, and they immediately went and paid for all the ESPN blowhards (Bayless, Cowherd, Whitlock) they could find.

Folks here know they get better analysis here so ESPN THs become irrelevant, or at best, amusing.

What does that "E" stand for?

I'd like to believe most/all posters here are pretty knowledgeable and receptive to other viewpoints.  Much of what I see on ESPN etc. looks to me like shrill outlandish stuff just to get attention.  They could hire Crunch and be an upgrade.  Not really.

They have to fill a LOT of time when nothing is happening as well.  I recall the old days when they'd show Australian Rules Football.  Fondly.

I believe the correct response would've been,
Ok. Cool.
Hook Em.

As you might expect, that perfectly turned phrase is trending strongly in the state of Texas. :)
Personally I kind of like the idea that UT's head coach and his wife were snorting nose candy off a peeler's rack together.  I'm gonna continue to believe it's true.

I guess Zach won't be coaching anywhere any time soon, or ever.

I would guess many of us here would love to be a QB coach at a major program (assume we had the skills needed).  You get paid rather nicely, right, probably $400 K or so, and in return you have to work pretty hard, long hours, not much time off, and keep your nose clean and free of white powder and other things.

You might need to guard against the possibility of embarrassing personal revelations, but that is true for most of us.

Yeah, he never successfully defended against the idea that his main contribution to OSU was toxicity. Instead, he fed it gasoline.
I worry the days with the biggest odds of him doing something terrible to hurt people are not behind him.

Yeah, if this is who he was when he had something to lose, now that he doesn't...
That's usually when things end tragically, when you take that away from someone, warranted or not.
