It's fun for me to discuss the complexities of the various schemes and what can go wrong.

I presume at the NFL missed assignments rarely happen.

Does ESPN ever do something like "The Game Behind the Game" where they get into all of this?

I know they mike up players at times.

They used to have "Edge NFL Matchup" with Ron Jaworski & Merrill Hodge.  I guess the Skip Bayless crowd wasn't into it - not enough eyeballs.  They did deep-dives into individual plays from the high endzone "coach's cam" and all that.

I'd watch some deep dive into some college plays for half an hour.  Todd Blackledge would be great at it I think, he does a little of this in games.

"The defense is in a basic set here, but you can see the safeties taking deep drops at the snap, and this safety reads the QB's eyes and drifts left leaving the tight end being covered badly by this OLB.  The QB now looks off the safety and throws a strike down this middle to Rozsinsky for a big gain.  Now, also note that the running back did a great pickup on the OLB who had the edge, he almost missed that, while the center missed his man entirely, but the tackle was able to chip him."

Obviously there are all sorts of fans of a sport.  A few, probably, are interested in the ins and outs and details.  Many probably just bet on the outcome and their interest just about ends there.  Others watch their team play and nothing else and watch the ball.  I'm sure we've all been to some SB Party with 30 people and perhaps 4 tried to more of less watch the game.

I won't go to some party to watch a game that is meaningful to me.

I stay home for many Husker games when they are meaningful

the Vikings haven't been in the SB for a few decades

I made the mistake once of too loudly inviting my buddy over to watch a game the next day, and like three of our wine drinking friends overheard and wanted to come because they knew there would be wine.  Holy cow.  We had a nice line up, UGA played in the afternoon and then OSU played that evening, significant games.  My buddy is a big OSU fan.

These women talked nonstop.  They'd ask some irrelevant question about the game while we were trying to hear what sort of penalty was just called.  At halftime, I got the wife who was upstairs to come offer them something to eat upstairs which she did.  My buddy and I never made that mistake again.

After the half, I cracked open a rather nice bottle for the two of us to share.  UGA won in overtime and OSU won in double OT.  We were exhausted after all that.

I have 3-4 watch party buddies I invite to my small house regularly for Husker games

usually 1 or 2 will show up.

More than 5 in my living room becomes crowded and of course serving food and drinks can interfere.

having a couple guys that know the drill is great and enhances the experience, having folks that don't understand or appreciate the graveness of the situation can be troublesome

the guys that know the drill fend for themselves and will grab a beer for me during a commercial break

non-football fans are best served in another room

Yup.  I had two good friends in Cincy that were both OSU fans and had good times watching with them, both like good wine also.  One just emailed me he wants to come back this fall to ATL, they visited us once already, to watch football and drink wine.

I don't watch big Florida games around other people.  It's for the best.

It's amazing how emotional we apparently rational people can get when people we don't know are playing some game that really has no impact on our lives.
