Well that's exactly what it is now, it's just that the qualifiers are intra-federation and not inter-federation.

And honestly I'm not sure the EPL and other professional leagues would be interested in taking longer international breaks than they already do, if you turned the qualifiers into inter-continental events.

And if the pro leagues and pro teams don't release their best players, then all qualifiers would be more like C-squads.  Which I don't think would be all that fun to watch regardless.
I mean, yes, but it's not really presented that way.

I think it could be done with fewer international windows, if you did one international window in the summer and got rid of the others.  You'd lose the Euros, but aside from that, I could live without the Gold Cup etc...

UEFA makes a ton of money off the Euros, and they're strongly considering breaking away from FIFA right now as it is.  I don't see any way they'd agree to that.

Plus I like the Euros.  It's like the World Cup but without all of the scrub teams from the Americas and Asia and Africa. :57:

Not sure the popularity of this opinion, but their flag jerseys rocked.

wouldn't mind seeing Messi win back to back world cups and walk-off into the sunset. always cool with the all-time greats go out on top. much better than when they keep going on as a shell of themselves and lose. that's sad to see.

think France has it in the bag though. from someone who knows nothing about the game- eye ball test tells me they just look like the best.

Ever drive down to Miami to see him play? We've thought about driving over.

The French definitely win the eye test.

They're very good, they should win, but ya never know.

I'm honestly good with any of the remaining 4 teams winning, there are good storylines for each.

does Messi take advantage of his stardom to flop more than usual?

Not that I'm going to say that OAM is right about Americans not giving a crap about soccer...

...but they clearly scheduled these games right during the Americans' work day so that the Euros don't have to stay up too late to watch them :57:

Well, sure.  Like we've said probably two dozen times over the past two weeks, it's no secret that soccer fans are in the minority in the USA.  Nobody has ever asserted that soccer is a hugely popular sport here.

At the same time, it's also silly to assert that ALL Americans in the US are now going to ignore the sport for the next 3 years, 11 months, and 2 weeks.  The soccer fans, are going to continue to watch soccer, and talk about soccer, all year long, every year, between now and the next one.  Just as we have done for the past 4 years, 8 years, 12 years, and so on.
