Okay.
1,433 days of apathy, and then it'll be a whole big thing again.

Seems unlikely the World Cup's popularity is rooted in U.S. success

Meltdown.  The moment just seems way too big for them.
That's what I told my wife. Clearly not prepared, not ready to play, outclassed.

Just simply not ready for prime time.

Fire the expensive coach now?

They didn't play well, but I don't see any reason to meltdown. They played a more aggressive style and were clearly a bit wobbly on the back end. There is a reason the less talented teams play much more conservatively, and a reason we used to as well.

The meltdown was just all of the stupid mistakes and unforced errors.  Terrible goalkeeper decisions.  That sort of thing.  Belgium wasn't directly responsible for all of that, it was very much a matter of the pressure of the moment.

But yeah, regardless of anything else, we knew Belgium was the more talented side all along.

Probably not while the tournament is still going on.  That did nothing to change my interest

Yeah, I've followed soccer for decades.  The USMNT has rarely been any good during that time.   The exit of the USMNT was completely expected either during this round or the next.  There's nothing surprising here and soccer fans will continue to be soccer fans.

Yeah this has the same value to me as Miami of Ohio getting clubbed in the NCAA tourney. We will always have Dayton. Now give me England v. Norway.

I bet if the USMNT committed to raining cash to attack the portal, Lane Kiffin is ready and all in.

Pochettino was hired on a two-year contract in 2024 specifically to coach the USMNT through this 2026 World Cup cycle.  I don't believe he ever had any plans of staying beyond this.

There were rumors USA tried to extend him prior to the World Cup, and he declined to make any decision until after the tournament

Not sure what his interest is among elite clubs.  His parting with Chelsea was pretty ugly

Whatever they paid him, it seems he was worth it.

I'd like to see him sign an extension, but certainly don't expect it.
