Happy Father's Day! It's the first day of summer, and man, it's been just wonderful. Weather has been great. World Cup on all the time. And today, the family can't even bug me for dinner!

The stars were sensational yesterday. Ronaldo gets to fight the charges that he's washed today. Also, more Harry Kane. If Fox has a soul they will put a Brit on the call.

Just catching up on the day.  It's nice to see someone other than the USA getting Ghana'd.

England got away with two calls that should have gone against them. Their keeper fouled Ghana's attacker just outside the 18, and their defender absolutely fouled the Ghana attacker in what should have been a PK towards the very end of the game. That stuff happens, and better in the group stage than in the knockouts, but those were lucky/unlucky depending on your rooting interests. Personally, I'm opposed to VAR; I think it's made the game worse. But if we're going to use it (and "we" do), I can't explain why the tackle in the box that should have led to a PK didn't get sent to review.

Nope.  Lost 3-2, they scored the game winner at the very end of stoppage time in the second half.

Hope they didn't lose their mojo by playing the scrub chickens.

Loved that term coined by Skicat back in the early days of message board world.

I Google'd the result utee referenced, and got this from AI:

The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) fell to an already-eliminated Turkey 3-2 in their final Group D match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.  Despite the last-minute defeat, the US had already secured the top spot in their group and advances to the Round of 32.

For those of us who don't follow or understand soccer, could somebody explain why an eliminated team is still playing games, and what the consequences are for a team losing to a team that's already eliminated?
