The little 15 min highlight videos right after the games end on youtube are perfect for me.  It's the absolute maximum amount of soccer I can handle, and I see the action without all the jogging around bits.
Argentina has the same strategy

The local morning drive time radio show was doing a comparison between goal calls... One was the Telemundo announcer (who is apparently from Argentina), and one was the local Argentine announcer.

Obviously these goal calls were crazy over the top, as is the custom...

But I was wondering. In the little bit of coverage I've watched, it seems QUITE common that goals are overturned--especially due to offsides.

Don't the announcers end up feeling silly for losing their goddamned minds calling a goal and then upon review... It's not a goal?

How do you all feel about the Prevent Defense? That (the "Low Block" or "parking the bus") is what England tried for about 35 minutes yesterday. Bad move. And the coaching staff is taking the appropriate beating for it.

Looking forward to Spain vs. Argentina. Feel good about Spain's chances.

The third place match between France and England feels like it could be an absolute snoozer, or a really fun, free-wheeling game (at least from France).

They do not.

I listened to an interview with one of them and he basically said you should act like the Big play counts for an extended period and then pull back when you really know.

because the call of a cool Big play is probably gonna get re-broadcast and you don’t want the re-broadcast to include you waffling about it.

Not only did they park the bus tactically with their on-field play, but they pulled attackers and replaced them with defenders.  So then later when they needed to go back on the attack, they didn't have personnel on the field to do so.

So basically, our longtime adage from American football applies-- the Prevent defense just Prevents you from winning.

Cost them the match, IMO, but I'm no expert.

As we say in football, the only thing a prevent defense prevents is winning.

When Spain knocked France out of the World Cup, it made me think about how nobody could beat Nadal in the French Open, and so it made me think....hasn't France suffered enough at the hands of Spain?

Not to mention his popularization of capri pants....

I started watching some game and within five minutes three players had Lebroned.  That was all I watched.   I used to be a soccer ref so I know most of the rules, I dislike flopping intensely.

The women used to be better.

Women flop more than they used to but still nothing like the men.

France has lost the last 3 in soccer alone.  You have to go back to 2021 for a France win.  It'd be embarrassing... if soccer really mattered. ;)

But I doubt there were many boos at a soccer game.  American soccer fans would barely know who he is, and international soccer fans would have no idea.  Sounds more like someone looking to manufacture some kind of story for clicks.
