Monte Ball's career
391 yards, 4 TDs
996, 18 TDs, 6.1
1,923, 33 TDs, 6.3 (306 more yards, 6 TDs receiving)
1,830, 22, 5.1

And I very quickly voted for another guy. What a decade.

Ball was a great back, but Gordon

Someone joined you! And two picks for White, the hipster option.

Ball was super, no doubt. I do feel a little bad how he had to turn into a hammer at the end of his career.

Ball and White were great. But it's got to be Gordon. I don't think the order is especially debatable: Taylor, Gordon, Ball, White. Clement is a distant fifth.

I thought White was a significant drop off from Ball

I just know I feared Ball more as an opponent. Yes, Gordon was much more likely to bust off a 70-yard touchdown run, but the thought of holding Ball to under 10 carries on three tries seemed nearly impossible.  He just sucked out the soul of your defense, Even if his yards per carry didn't quite match up

Same, I think it's three tiers.  Taylor-Ball/Gordon-White/Clement

Nah. White was an excellent back in his own right. He did a lot of things.

He wasn’t always that. Late in his career he was a decent hammer, but lost a bit of luster.

That might be more of an insider perspective. Granted, I don’t have the advanced stats on efficiency for Ball that last year. Gordon was good not unreal as a junior, but was hilariously explosive.

It’s a hard read because White was always used for speed to contrast with a hammer, until his last year.

When he was the primary tailback, he went for 1444 at 6.5 a carry and 13 TDs. I think there was a mild drop off, but not a massive one.

Funny he’s far and away the best in the pros.
