Yeah, that was weird. It was briefly mentioned though that because that guy wasn't actually in a 3-point staff he wasn't yet locked-in. I don't know the nuances on that well enough, so I was hoping a rules expert was going to get some voice time. It seemed like it could be a distinction that mattered (making it as if OkSU actually hadn't picked a formation yet and was therefore free to move in any way, which Herman may have ignored/not noticed).
I'm not saying I agreed. Just that it seemed to have the makings of a loophole type situation. Something you shouldn't be able to get away with, but if no one is in a 3-point stance maybe you can.
I would think that even if you are in a two point stance if you are lined up on the LOS you are locked in at that point. I mean, we’ve all seen tackles in two point stances called for false starts.  OSU had guys in interior line positions all of a sudden shifting.  Not to mention the guys punt protectors running toward the LOS.  The refs just really screwed that up.  Herman had a right to be pissed.
That was a significant play in that game too.  Ok St should have been called for a penalty which almost ensures they punt at that point.  Couple plays later they scored.

I think you are *probably* right, but one more clarifying question: At which point is a lineman set? Is there a way to prolong that period from the huddle and never actually set but do it in a nuanced way to trick the defense into thinking you have(?).

If so, then that either deserves a rule change or the refs need to call it for "Intent to deceive." If not, then you must be correct.

I felt pretty bad for the Hawks after that botched pass play (interception) at the end.  It was an error due to too much thinking, it seems.  I guess that's the best kind of error, if you have to have an error.
I still think Iowa is right there with anybody else in the B1G...
on the road in that stadium with the student section that close
you're foolish to try audibles and any thing that requires communication
gotta dumb it down, run the play that was called or call a TO

The wedding I attended last weekend was in rural GA.  Florida and Georgia both had a bye.  Shrewd scheduling.

Florida had a TE move on a play and the UGA defenders pointed to him, and then a flag came out.  The ball was not snapped.

I thought he could move, no one else moved, and then reset.

Refs do mess up.  The PI call against Mizzou didn't look like defensive PI to me, maybe offensive.

well, no one expects a Husker defensive safety to be on this national list

I saw the thread in ice hockey and was musing about some UGA "analyst" worrying about weather in Lexington Saturday.  It apparently will be around 47°F and cloudy.  He saw that as a factor for the Dawgs.

It is 73°F here today and sunny, beautiful day.  The leaves are just starting to think about changing color.

Yes, we are aware that the south is warmer than the north.

Probably why so many bowls are played down here....wait, I meant "unfair postseason home games"....

Neither the lateral shifts at the line, nor the two men in motion moving toward the line, were a problem if the ball is not snapped.  However neither of those motions can legally draw the defense offsides per the rules.  Only way defense could be offsides in that situation, is if the ball snaps.  But if the ball snaps, then you have 4 offensive players in motion, when the ball is snapped, which is an illegal procedure.  Really weird play, they were clearly trying to make it as tricky and confusing for the refs as possible, and it worked.  Texas got an offsides penalty that never should have been called.  Major bummer for me, obviously.

Correct, exhibition games as a reward for a season completed, not games from which conclusions should be drawn.
