(8) Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)
Bill and Ted’s slang, clothes, music obsession, optimism, and lovable stupidity make them unmistakably late-’80s teenagers. Even though the movie jumps through history, its attitude is pure 1989. The characters, dialogue, and “excellent” worldview gave the film lasting cult appeal and kept it recognizable long after release.
(9) The NeverEnding Story (1984)
The NeverEnding Story became a defining childhood fantasy for many who grew up in the decade. Falkor, Atreyu, the Childlike Empress, the theme song, and the practical creature effects remain deeply memorable. Its fantasy setting required a cultural-impact exception, but its imagery and emotional staying power made it too important to leave out.

I think Bill and Ted is more 80s but Neverending Story is a better movie.

Yeah, it pains me to vote against Neverending Story, but to me it's not really much of an "80s movie" at all.

I only included it because it felt like a crime not too. It was such a big part of being an 80’s kid.

Many of us are still traumatized by the death of that horse. 😭

I loved The NeverEnding Story when I was a kid, but it feels like something similar could be done in any era. Bill and Ted, OTOH, seems like something that would've only happened in the 80's. Although, there's Dude, Where's My Car? which happened in 2000, so maybe I'm wrong on that. But Bill and Ted utilized the two nitwits trope, but then combined it with time travel. So I come back to thinking, "This only happens in the 80's."

Neither one ages well, but I at least enjoyed Bill & Ted at the time. Even as a child, I hated Neverending Story
