Isn't it crazy how we were all lead to believe that you can actually own property in this country?

May say so on the title, but if you don't pay your taxes, or say, "rent," to the government, you don't get to keep it.
I like to say if you don't pay your feudal master your yearly serf dues he will kick you off his land

When we sold our house in Crook County back in 2018, the property taxes were $13K. The same house is now at $19.5K.

The lady who bought it is fixed income (retired).

do billionaires pay property taxes similar to us common folks?  Or are there loopholes for them to escape?

I figure taxes come from somewhere, if you eliminate one you increase another.

Florida has a massive surplus, which is why it can afford to eliminate property taxes (except those for schools) for homestead residents.

Visitors (their landlords/hotels) and snowbirds (non-homestead) will pay most of the freight.

Yeah, we only considered warm weather states and locations.   Maybe SD is a great place financially, but … not anywhere near my list.  These rankings appear to be based on financial considerations alone.

Financial considerations are a key factor for many.

We lived the big city life for a long time. If we feel the need to go to one, we can drive to a few fairly easily. This was a welcome and needed change for us.

Financially it has been extremely beneficial.

Low property tax, no income tax on anything, medium sales tax (higher than Wisconsin, much lower than Crook County), and a low HOA ($440/mo) that includes all landscaping, garbage, irrigation, infrastructure, fiber internet and streaming TV (unlimited number of TV's).

And we bought before Covid, so we got in low.

The only crappy part is the hurricanes.

Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the show?
