I have a short list but it changes
don't have a wife - that's not changing
You never know, one of the hotties you post may decide she needs a sugar daddy.

My present plan is not really ever retiring.  Pretty rare to see guys in my locale/profession completely hang it up, but it does happen on occasion.  Wife probably has other plans, but we can't freakin' follow our kids somewhere, as they will up and move themselves.

So, Camper, Boat, and Lakes.  Occasional visits to the kids.

But, the damn property tax in this state is horrendous, and my town is on the way high end of real estate prices--although nothing stupid like the coasts or even Colorado.  And who knows what tumult will occur over the next 15-20 years.  AI is going to make us all rich, I saw it on the internet a couple of days ago.

I got asked by several coworkers what they should consider (after I had settled).  The thing is it's going to vary for obvious reasons, but I put staying active/walking at the top.

We were initially drawn to several very different situations but upon reflection concluded they were not for us.  Every where we traveled we'd talk about what it might be like to retire there.  Had I not met my wife, I suspect I'd be on 25 acres in the Boonies somewhere near the mountains.  I now realize that would have been pretty bad for me, probably.

My wife grew up in downtown Paris, about as "cosmopolitan" a place as exists anywhere, so she likes the city vibe a lot.  I'm still a bit surprised how much she claims to like it here.  This isn't Paris, duh.  She did not want to retire in France, which is a complicated story I've learned.  Living in France isn't like visiting Fance.

I can see myself in Provence like Oddball drinking some wine, eating some cheese, soaking some rays ...

We have a tentative plan to visit Provence for a month somewhere.  One of my oddball "hobbies" now is playing baseball two weeks out of the year.  And trying to get in shape for same the other 50 weeks.

Anyway, it's worth thought, all of it.

Property tax???

I suspect, given the crazy increases here, even when my mortgage gets to Zero, property tax and homeowners' insurance will be pushing $1,500 a month in 15 years.  Property tax on my abode is already $350/mo, up 33% in 6 years.

Mobile sounds interesting, but getting rid of all our "treasures" would be hard.  And campgrounds are $80/day in some places.

Costs a lot of dough to live these days.

You can get reasonable weekly or monthly rates at lots of RV parks around the country.  They're generally not as "pretty" as national, state, or local campgrounds, but they do tend to offer more amenities.

With my present gifted old little rig, I would be excluded from many places these days.  It's not a junker, but it's a 90's model, and they don't want the riff-raff pulling into quite a few places.  Sad thing is that it's built better than a lot of the stuff thrown together during the dread disease, since people were dying to get out of their locked-down homes.

I sprung for a Harvest Hosts membership recently, we are going to try to take advantage of that this year.  But that's mostly boondocking, so we'll have to see how that goes.  We have a generator and bought the rolling AC unit that works on 110 so a 30 amp isn't going to be required, but running the generator sure will be.

Most people just lie about the age of their rig.  How are they gonna know?  If it's falling apart as you pull through the gate, sure, they might turn you back.

We boondock a lot and most of our camping is in spring and summer so we absolutely have to run the genny for the air conditioning.  My 3.5 KW inverter genny runs the rooftop A/C no problem.  You might want to turn it off briefly if you're gonna run the microwave but other than that no issues.

My two main expenses now are property tax and the HOA.  They are pretty insane as I think about it.
