I mentioned Morro Bay, CA in an earlier post.

If I wasn't so attached to my home community (my screen name is my town), I'd seriously think about it. It was a beautiful little town.

According to Google is is about half way between LA and San Francisco. I'm just not a big city guy so I wouldn't want to retire to a big City like @Cincydawg in Atlanta and Morro Bay and according to Wiki Morro Bay has about 10k people.

It is California so expensive but Zillow had houses for $750k and under so it isn't LA ridiculous.

I think the big problem would be that although it is halfway between LA and San Francisco it isn't very close to either.

Cincy mentioned being close to a major airport. Morro bay is about 3:40 from either SFO or LAX. Although I'm a small town guy, I'm used to being adjacent to a big city. I'm 20 minutes from CLE and well within an hour of NFL, MLB, NBA, concert venues, Symphony, all the big city stuff.in Morro Bay you'd have LA and San Fran each at about 3-1/2 hours but where I am now Cleveland is MUCH closer and within about 3.5 hours I could get to that plus Columbus, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo while Cincinnati and Indianapolis aren't a whole lot further.

When you're old, you need to be within striking distance of a major hospital.

I'm here for a quick visit in Sun Lakes, AZ where my MiL lives. Been in Cabo for 10 days and now here for a short.

My lips are bleeding. So f'ing dry in both places.
How to soothe chapped lips
There are lots of ways to soothe dry lips without lip balm. Consider covering lips with a scarf when outside or running a humidifier indoors to stave off the dry air. Dehydration can cause dry lips so drinking water is another safe bet.

One reflex to avoid: lip-licking. While licking lips may provide short-term relief, the saliva can evaporate quickly and suck more moisture along with it, drying lips out even more.

If you cut back on balms but your lips are still stinging, consider seeing a dermatologist to learn more.

“If you do these things, you’ll get through the winter with soft, supple lips,” Mann said.

We saw a bit of snow driving back in the shady areas around Macon.

So long as you can walk a mile or so in reasonable comfort, you are in "good shape" for a retiree, it's the most important thing after you mental acuity.  So, once again, retire where you can and will walk a good bit.

We have a small gym in the building which I use almost daily, that's a plus for me.  Obviously life in a large urban area is not for everyone.  Folks usually have hobbies of some sort that influences their choices.  We're actually glad we didn't move to Florida, but it's a good choice for many folks.

If you can convert your retirement savings into post-tax accounts, California can work for you, you won't get scorched by income taxes.  Parts of the state are quite nice and have fairly reasonable housing prices.
