I like a good Reuben about as much as any sammich.  Some are not good though.  Your favorite sammich?

Hmmm.
For decades there was an old style deli about a mile away.Smoked meat and cheeses hanging everywhere large ceramic crocks of pickled everything. The owners family also had a bakery. They made a Sub-sammich they called a poor boy,not a PB in the N.Orleans sense/way.Any way it was on a 10"French roll/bun and like a trip thru europe smoked goulda & swiss cheeses, slices of prosciutto, smoked bavarian ham, fresh roast beef, pastrami, turkey and a combination there of.there was another cheese layered in there.different lettuce - like a spring mix and some absolutely fantastic vinegarette :cheer: :celebrate: :098:.Seriously if I had had a last meal that would be it.Place closed about 25 yrs ago as a devoloper put in some of the $$$ homes in the county.I still think about those Hero Sammy's but a buddy who worked there in High School knows how to make them and he runs a kitchen at a Health care facility. So I have that going for me but I don't like to inconvenience him when I get the hankering

Italian Beef.
Those look pretty damn good as does that Baltimore Pit Beef. This old Greek Guy used to run a few Gyro Carts by a popular pub right off the Freeway.Cops/Fireman use to stop there all the time.Cops never bothered you when you left either as long as you weren't "over served".

I think a Reuben is probably a more polarizing sandwich. Not sure everyone likes the sauerkraut or the dressing, and a lot of people don't like Swiss cheese. But I like all those things.

It's a lot harder to find any polarizing ingredients on a Cuban.
Salami or no salami?

I was informed that places on the gulf side do Cubans w salami which was news to me.  Never saw that before.   Is that just a narrow regional niche?  I've never been to Tampa, probably the largest MSA I've not been to in US.

The only food item I detest is liver.  I had forgotten about gyros, I like them very much, almost as much as hats for bats.

Gonna be a chill weekend here.

Last night saw my brother again, this time with the kids. All had a good time. My wife is "angry" that she likes his wife so much, given the history, but it seems like the rift that f'ed up the last 3 1/2 years is going to be healed. So that's good.

Annoyed that it's a sleepy, rainy, weekend, and Purdue doesn't have a game today. I have no plans other than watching football and cooking some pork chops tonight, and Purdue is idle.

Yet next Saturday I'll be going to dinner at my father-in-law's place for his birthday, which is of course when Purdue and Northwestern will face off in a night game. That will make 3 for 3 in Purdue games this year where my plans have interfered with at least some portion of the broadcast. But today, when I've got NOTHING on the schedule, Wisconsin canceled.

Oh well. I guess that means that I don't have to watch a shorthanded Wisconsin team with a RB behind center rush for 520 yards on Purdue in a rout.

Nope. Stupid gimmick, not in the running for best sandwich.

You don't get to be best sandwich when all you are is a boring deli sandwich on white bread because you threw a side dish on it.

I would not want fries on a sammich, they'd get soggy quickly.

I might get me a Willy Philly here shortly.

Take the bread off and I'd stuff my face with that thing.
