If someone mistakes me for a sissy girl, I don't care, or feel any need to correct them, or worry about it.

I have that much confidence in myself.

when I was a kid drive in theaters was a big deal

lots of stuff happened at the drive in

you could go steady with a girl and break up with her in the same night

the drive in was kinda like a high school board meeting

you had groups attending like the jocks the nerds and oh yes the cheerleaders

I was kind of a delegate at large as I was connected to both the jock group and the nerd group

another group of mention was the band group

I recall going to Dairy Queen after a win in Little League.  Not if we lost.  Baseball was big around us.

We bought a new house when we moved to Atlanta that had no central AC.  We had a large window unit in the den and a whole house fan.  1964.  Four bedroom house with half basement but no AC.  My parents added central air in 1968 or so.  I thought it was a waste of money at the time.

A lot of houses in that era had no basement, they had a crawl space.  There also were a lot of split levels, it was popular at the time.  My dad didn't want stairs.

I would have been in the "nerd" group in HS, but I basically dropped out of the HS social scene entirely.

That was my group during school hours, but after school I spent huge amounts of time at my martial arts school. For good portions of my time during HS I was there 4-6 days a week, between my own classes, teaching classes, etc. Particularly my sophomore year as I was preparing for my black belt test, and my senior year as I was preparing for my 2nd degree test. That was my social circle far more than almost anyone in my HS except for a tiny handful of close friends.

lived in a basement house until about 1970.  That's when my father built the upper level.

didn't get central air until about 1976

didn't have any window A/C units, just fans.  Could always go to the basement to sleep

usually celebrated my birthday in July outside someplace in the shade

Group dynamics in high school are somewhat interesting.

I could relate and slide in and out of all groups.

My graduating class was around 500 lol..

It's strange that I'm one of those people who can fit in with just about any social group, but I don't feel like I belong to any of them...

We had 313 at graduation, if memory serves.  I played baseball and basketball so I was somewhat a jock.  Then I also took upper level classes.  I was not in the popular crowd though.

We had courses either 1 level, 2, or 3, the 3 being toughest.  I was poorly prepared for college, my own fault.

We didn't have A/C, but when my older brother was a teen and had a paper route and other odd jobs, he saved up and bought a window A/C unit for his room.   Lol!  Suddenly we took interest in hanging out in his room during the rare scorcher nights in SE WI.  This was summer of '88 which was brutal.
