Eh, I think in the context of this question that things like whether or not you beat your rival, won the league, won the NC shouldn't carry too much weight, if any.

When it’s OSU and Michigan and during most of the years we are discussing, that was the toughest team on the schedule, I absolutely think it’s relevant if a W didn’t show up that week. NC prior to the playoff is irrelevant but I’m not sure I’d see any argument favorably that ranked a Michigan’s best team in a year they didn’t beat osu nor with the Big Ten title.

I get there’s years Michigan beat osu and the following year they lost and that team was likely better in the latter, but if we are talking about best team over multiple decades, I think that W is a prerequisite for me.
