If sitting out is OK, when does it become OK?  Right before the big rivalry game, if you're not going to make the CFP?  Before the CCG if you're not going to make the CFP even with a win?  Or if you're big underdogs?

IMO, if you commit to play your senior season, you play your senior season, to include post-season games.  Your teammates are playing, your coaches are coaching, so why are you taking a pass?
Ask Joey Bosa.

When you sign up for football, you know the risk. An injury is possible in any game, practice or training session. When you sign up for football, you also make a commitment to your coaches and teammates. Not playing is breaking that commitment.

Butt reportedly received a $543,000 payout due to a loss of value insurance claim he received due to his ACL injury. On May 11, 2017, the Denver Broncos signed Butt to a four-year, $2.70 million contract that included a signing bonus of $300,938.

Smith was the fourth linebacker drafted in 2016. On May 20, 2016, the Dallas Cowboys signed Smith to a four-year, $6.49 million contract that includes $4.42 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $2.92 million.

Did the US Military reinstate the draft?

I get that they're not poor but booth would have garnered a lot more in the 1st rd were they were pegged.Remember once in that price range Uncle Sam snaps about half.So injury obviously is a game changer in the check out line

Not anymore. Below is a graduated table.

For example, if you make $610,300, you will pay 37% on the $100,000, $35% on the amount between $204,100 and $510,299, and so on. So, nowhere near 50%.

You can get close to 50% if you live in California.  They take 8% starting at about $40,000.  You pay FICA on the first $132,900 now, 15.3% if you are self employed.  After that limit, you still pay 1.45% for Medicare on all earned income.

If you make $140,000 a year in CA and are single, you pay almost $25,000 in Federal income tax,  almost $10,000 in CA income tax, and over $10,000 in FICA.  That's not half of course, but it's a chunk, about a third, and more if you are self employed.

The good news is that on unearned income, you don't pay FICA.  I like unearned income, as I didn't earn it, somehow.

FICA is capped at $132,900 right now. So, no tax on any income above that.

I need tax knowledge on my game earnings.  Not an official LLC, just on the side so far.
