This is better than real life. 

In reality A&M lost to both BYU and USL ( I think they go by University of Louisiana Lafayette now). I seem to recall the BYU game as a high scoring affair, we lost like 34-36 or something. USL we threw like 6 INT. 

This was back in the day when we’d play a road game at someone like that. So this was actually an away game for us. 

Our QB was a much hyped guy named Branndon Stewart. YES, there is an extra N. He was a Transfer from Tennessee, where he narrowly (supposedly) got beat out by Peyton Manning. 

Anyways, we ended up 6-6, losing badly to UT at the end of the season 51-15. 

This was my first season at A&M. I wasn’t a freshman because I was a transfer student and I was also 20 years old but everything was completely new to me. I didn’t know anything about CFB at all. None of the great teams, or rivalry’s or anything. I didn’t know anything about the SWC or Big 12 or SEC. 

I watched that UT/ ND game as well as the ASU Neb game. I remember the announcer making a big deal out of it. I watched UF destroy Tennessee. It was my first exposure to all things CFB and it’s very memorable to me. 

I was at all the home games and I was at the very first Big 12 A&M game vs CU.

I met Brannnnnndon Stewart a few years later in Austin, he was taking the same SCUBA diving class that I was, in preparation for his honeymoon trip, which is also what I was doing.  We were the only two younger guys in the class so we hung out together some.  He was a heck of a nice guy, and when I asked him if he missed playing football he said kind-of, but he absolutely did not miss the working out.  His frame was naturally lean and athletic but to play D1-A college QB he'd had to bulk up a ton, and he said it was grueling.
