Weird to see every top ten team with one loss save PSU with zero.

That's the thing when teams were spread out among 6 conferences and Independents.  Teams OOC scheduled better, but there was way less conference play crossover.

I also noticed in the argument between the national championship and the Rose Bowl between Big Ten and SEC fans, just how different the backgrounds really are.  In 1983, both conferences had 10 members.

The Big Ten played a full round robin, to make sure the correct team went to the Rose Bowl.  Then most of them scheduled 2 power 5 schools as their OOC, because who cares, the goal is the Rose Bowl

The SEC played a SIX GAME conference schedule.  So there were 3 teams you didn't play, with a 5 game OOC schedule.  Seems like the SEC was more of a scheduling agreement than an actual conference.

I know back when UGA liked to play ACC teams, like in 1980 they played Clemson and USCe.  They also played A&M, TCU, and GaTech.  They really didn't have a pastry that year.  The same was true in 1981 except they did host Temple.

They declared the SEC Champion(s) of course, and there could be 2-3 of them in a year.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting that they were using it as a way to schedule their way to an NC.  Simply that clearly if SEC teams cared about the validity of the SEC champ, they wouldn't play only 6 of 9 SEC opponents, while playing 5 OOC games.  Likewise, if Big Ten teams cared about the MNC, they wouldn't schedule a full round robin, plus 2 other BCS conference OOC games

I think as much as that debate has raged here, both conferences come by it honestly
