Week 4 Preview
« on: September 15, 2019, 09:06:30 AM »
Not all kick times have been announced, but we have a pretty danged good Saturday coming up nationally, even if much of the B1G is off.

Noon:

Michigan at Wisconsin: An early season Big Enchilada that will have big impacts on both division races.

MSU at Northwestern: Not quite the enchilada but still a very intriguing game.

TBA

Miami (OH) at OSU: Ohio State gets one more layup before the meat of their schedule starts.

Nebraska at Illinois: Sneaky game on what exactly both of these teams are.

UConn at Indiana: Meh

Boston College at Rutgers: BC got waxed by Kansas, Rutgers must try.

Nationally

Auburn at Texas A&M, 3:30: Big SEC tilt to make for a fun middle of the day.

Notre Dame at Georgia, 8 pm: Big noncon game where ND once again tries to show they can play with the big boys.

Same goes for the Gophers.  Won't need to pull a rabbit out of a matchstick box this next weekend....

Miami (Ohio) coach Chuck Martin on facing Ohio State: "It's kind of like going to recess and they have the first 85 picks."

The B1G match-ups per our most recent Power Rankings:

  • #2 Wisconsin vs #4 Michigan
  • #6 Michigan State at #9 Northwestern
  • #7 Nebraska at #13 Illinois

My thoughts:
Michigan at Wisconsin:
If the Badgers win I would take a tOSU/UW B1GCG matchup straight-up over anything else.

Michigan State at Northwestern:
First one to double digits wins?  Fortunately we use a clock and limit it to 60 minutes because if these two teams had to play until one of them had 10 points the game might last all week.

Nebraska at Illinois:
For the Illini I see this game as both Lovie's last stand and their last plausible chance at a bowl berth.  If they can't beat the Cornhuskers at home then I just can't see how they can get to six wins and if they can't get to six wins then Lovie needs to go.  For the Cornhuskers this is all about showing that the Colorado game was just a fluke.

I'm hoping the Husker's defense shows that the run defense vs N. Illinois was no fluke.

Inside linebackers coach Barrett Ruud said Illinois running back Reggie Corbin will be one of the better backs that Nebraska faces this season. Corbin is averaging 7.5 yards per carry so far this season.

Don't shoot the messenger, I can't verify this, but apparently CBS gets two doubleheaders a year, one Noon-3:30 and one 3:30-8.

They are using their 3:30-8 doubleheader this weekend, meaning for the first time since 2010 (except in 2011, they had both be 3:30-8, and Alabama-LSU was one of the two), Alabama-LSU won't be the CBS prime time game.  Last time was for Alabama-Florida in 2010.
