2011.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=312530213

Since that time, they have played nearly all (or all) neutral site games.  They are obviously moving away from that model.
Thanks. As I said, I couldn't remember. That does not mean it didn't happen. ;)

SEC programs have a lot of options for OOC teams in the ACC and B12 obviously, some of which are more akin to rivalry games.  I'm just happy to see more OOC games between P5 teams that are home and away, here and there, whichever it is.

The few OOC games between heavyweights (or near heavyweights) are attention getting when the occur, but they are too rare IMHO.

I agree and would like to see more of them. I enjoy seeing my favorite team playing a heavy weight team from another conference, in the non-conference portion of the schedule. It is generally a very high profile game that puts both teams in the national spotlight. But even more than that, I enjoy seeing how they stack up to others outside of their conference. Watching tOSU beat up on Florida Atlantic is like watching Mike Tyson beat up a 90 lb weakling. Where is the challenge in that?

Oklahoma had a home-and-home with Alabama in 2002-03, Dennis Franchione's last year and Mike Shula's first.  We caught Bama when they were not at their historic level.

I've mentioned before that if every P5 team played at least 10 P5 teams a year, I'd be happy.  That levels the field for teams who play 9 conference games.

SEC and ACC teams can play one P5 opponent and 3 pastries (and often do).  The other conferences are playing 9 P5 teams in conference and fairly often another P5 team OOC.  Two pastries a year is plenty enough for me.

the beauty of the polls determining the title back in the dazes was guessing about relative conference strengths and SOS for non con games and the schedule overall

unfortunately, things were mostly the same decades ago and number of losses was heavily weighted, see 84 BYU

I sure wanted 6-5 Michigan to beat BYU in the Holiday Bowl, as OU was #2 with the Orange Bowl game vs. U-Dub still to play, but I'm not sure that BYU was not the best team in all the land, despite not playing anyone of note, in 1984.

However, had I been a poll-voter, I would have voted for Washington.

yup, I was rooting for Michigan as well

BYU very well may have been the best team, but I'll never know....
