I still don't understand targeting interpretations.
The review said nothing about targeting, so I don't think it was considered. Is that what you call a "Mulligan review?"

The roughing the passer was a textbook call. Defender clubbed the qb in the head.

If extending your arms to try and deflect a pass is considered clubbing, then I guess maybe.

He hands start up while the QB still has the ball, and contact is made less than a step after the ball is released. In real time it's bang bang, and doesn't seem like the intent is to graze the QB helmet. (Intent was block the pass.)

We can have different opinions on the call, it was called how it was called.

But we can agree that it felt like a 14 point momentum swing, so it was a huge call. And that we can agree we have all seen later hits and more egregious hits not called.

I'm curious if the B1G can go back and look at the end of the game targeting, and hand a suspension down for the Oregon game.

Intent, timing, and egregiousness are all irrelevant.

I would have to look up the rule, which is a pain, but I don't know how you can be a runner who can fumble and also be a defenseless player. Seems like it should be one or the other

Your definition of clubbing differs greatly from mine. A defensive player attempting to get their hands up to block a pass and then grazing the helmet of a QB is vastly different than what I would call clubbing.

Yeah, this one baffled me. If a player running with the ball is defenseless, how is the defense ever supposed to make a tackle?

grazing the helmet is enough
call it what you will, any contact with the QB's helmet is the rule

Buffalo survives a close scare against Wagner 69-7.

Do they have a puncher's chance against the Huskers next week?
everyone has a chance against a team that self destructs

Agreed that it was a HUGE call because of the swing cancelling out the turnover and then Minnesota scoring.

And perhaps "clubbed" was an overstatement. But if you don't read a bedtime story, give a goodnight kiss, and tuck in a QB while trying to sack him, it's a penalty. Can't make contact with the QB's head. At all.

Intent, timing, and egregiousness are all irrelevant.

Both correct. Can't make contact with the helmet.

Best analysis of the rule that I've seen. :)

At this point the QBs should be wearing skirts.

The one take away from last nights game to me was how reluctant the refs were to call pass interference

several times the defender actually grabbed the receivers arm before the ball arrived and no call was made

They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.
