35,000 reported attendance

LA Times with a story earlier this week on the real attendance at the Rose Bowl these past few seasons:

https://twitter.com/latimessports/status/1963199306724237764

The reporter accessed the scan counts through a public records request. The scan count - meaning the number of individuals scanning tickets through the stadium gates. As opposed to "tickets distributed — including freebies — plus non-ticketed and credentialed individuals such as players, coaches, staff, vendors, cheerleaders, band members, performers and even media."

The difference between the two figures - scan counts and tickets distributed, is consistently over 10,000:

No need to imagine, you can find them right here:

Utah@UCLA brought in about 1.5M on the Nielsen panel viewership, about half of Nebraska@Cincy's 3.1M

Start a Week 2 SoC. We got game tonight.

fUCLA needs to join the PAC-12 and then maybe build itself a 30K seat stadiette on campus.

Stanford's is about 50K, which is a good size for when Cal and ND come to town, and 30K fans in it isn't terrible.

UCLA should shoot for the same.

We need a week 2 SoC but oh my this is a weak slate:

#15 Michigan at #18 Oklahoma is the ONLY ranked-vs-ranked game of the entire weekend and most of the top-25 are favored by a LOT:
  • Ohio State, no spread due to playing FCS Grambling
  • Penn State -42.5 vs FI(not A)U
  • LSU -36.5 vs LaTech
  • Georgia, no spread due to playing FCS Austin Peay
  • Miami, no spread due to playing FCS Bethune-Cookman
  • Oregon -27.5 vs OkSU
  • Texas -36.5 vs SJSU
  • Clemson -31.5 vs Troy
  • Notre Dame off
  • USCe, no spread due to playing FCS SCST
  • Illinois -2.5 at Dook
  • ASU -6.5 vs MissSt
  • Florida -17.5 vs USF
  • Florida State, no spread due to playing FCS Directional aTm
  • Michigan +5.5 at #18 Oklahoma
  • Iowa State -3.5 vs Iowa
  • SMU -2.5 vs Baylor
  • Oklahoma -5.5 vs #15 Michigan
  • aTm -32.5 vs Utah State
  • Ole Miss -8.5 vs Kentucky
  • Bama -34.5 vs UL-Monroe
  • Tennessee, no spread due to playing FCS Directional Tennessee St
  • Indiana -35.5 vs Kennesaw State
  • TxTech -48.5 vs Kent
  • Utah, no spread due to playing FCS Cal Poly

Interesting that the B1G is involved in nearly all of the decent games this weekend.  M/OU and IA/ISU are the headliners but IL/Dook is decent.  The only other single-digit point spreads for top-25 teams are ASU/MissSt, SMU/Baylor, and Ole Miss / Kentucky.
