I love it how only utee knows, intimately, all the happenings with other conferences and invites pertaining to conference realignment. Like the "man behind the curtain in Wizard of Oz". All hail, the mighty Marcus, Wizard Know it all of Conference Realignment, whose team never did anything, and only others are responsible for breaking apart College Football Conferences.
You can read 20 different accounts from 20 different sources who say the different things.
Did you ever stop to consider that maybe UT wanted more than the PAC was willing to give, and that the "other" schools simply didn't want to go along? I can promise you this, A&M would NEVER had went to the PAC. Not in a million years. But oh sure, SEC didn't want A&M in the early 90's, because you know Arkansas, state of 5 million or something, was just oh so much better.
Maybe A&M wasn't afraid to move and simply did the best thing for it, long before UT was ready to admit the same thing. Because in the end, we all know UT would be accepted into it's conference of choosing. I really don't even know why we are still arguing about it 10-20 years later, it was bound to happen as more and more money has entered the picture.
