Fun fact.  NYC gets 25+% more annual rainfall than Seattle.

Seattle Average Annual Precipitation: 39.34 inches (measured at Sea-Tac Airport).

New York City Average Annual Precipitation: 49.5 inches (measured at Central Park)

However Seattle averages roughly 250 cloudy days per year, compared to just 183 cloudy days in New York City.

So that's where the myth comes from

Heck, Ohio gets 40 on average

We get 60.  Lucky me.  

I was always lead to believe that it's not so much that it rains hard in Seattle, it's that it drizzles all the damn time and you never get a break from some amount of rain.  But I don't know.

There are beautiful rainless periods in PNW.  My brother lives rhere and constantly reminds his new Yorkers of the rain differences

Since im obsessing on this.

Indianapolis has never recorded a single day snowfall of 12 inches of more..  i remind people everytime when people here start touting. 10-18 inch storms coming!   

We dont have the moisture,  no great lake effect here, and generally dont have snowbelt type winters.  Northern IN?  Yes, not Indy.

we're over 50 inches per year here

We only get 19 inches of rain per year, which somehow results in an average of 46 flash floods annually.

Soil (rock) conditions make a huge difference in how flooding occurs.

2 years ago today Hurricane Helene made landfall.

Lots of devastation came with that storm, mostly for North Carolina.
