Thats supposed to be the best
Im concerned over how loud they may be at full power
It's either on or off, no such thing as full power or a lesser degree of power. Not on the models I'm familiar with anyway.
It's loud, but not loud enough to get on my nerves. Ours is next to a wall with no windows, and kind of away from the main living areas, though that doesn't mean a whole lot for our house, because it's not very big. If it sat next to some of the living areas, particularly outside of the sunroom which wall is mostly windows, it'd probably be a lot louder. As it is, it sounds like the neighbors are mowing. It fools me into thinking it's not in our yard, but I can hear it. If the TV or radio is on, or something, you can't hear it.
It's like jgvol said.....they're not worth it....until you need it, and then it's invaluable. Our power got knocked out a couple years ago in May for 3 days, and that was more than I ever want to deal with again. And that was just May. We'd have had to leave if it had been June or later. It is nice knowing we won't have to make emergency accommodations if something like that happens again. otoh, the few storms we've gotten that have taken out power have usually not lasted all that long.....not long enough to make me say "Boy, I'm sure glad I spent all that money on a generator." But like you, we're in hurricane alley, and this area has been smacked by more than one of them. It's basically really expensive insurance, is how I view it, and somebody like Fearless probably wouldn't understand that.
