The place we stay in Hawaii is consistently a high of 82°F with no rain, they get 3 inches a year, I have seen it rain there.  The weatherman has little to do.  One nice thing is every day is generally the same, quite nice.  Of course the other side of the island is quite different, I think Hilo gets 300 inches of rain a year.  It's a pretty nice small town.

There have been some really bad tsunamis on that other side of the island in history, I'm glad the big quake didn't cause something bad.  The outskirts of Hilo can be wiped out by the volcano, and subdivisions are gone with a house dotted around here and there, the other areas just an old lava flow.  A main connecting road was swallowed up years ago and never redone.  It's neat to drive to the end of it.

Sheesh talk about the wrong side of the tracks, does that have something to do with trade winds or mountains that's unusual considering distance

Yes, trade winds and mountains.  The eastern sides of Hawaiian islands get more rain, by a lot.  And there are two big mountains on the Big Island nearly 14,000 feet with a saddle in between that is about 6,000 feet, so it pushes the humid trade winds up causing rain on that side, but not the lee side.

It also snows on those mountains in winter.  I've often been swimming in a nice warm ocean looking back at snow covered Mauna Kea, which means "white mountain" in Hawaiian.

Yeah it was both SkiCat and WC4E.  They liked to talk about how the hot temperatures in the more southerly B12 states wouldn't cause any negative effects to their team, because it got just as hot in Manhappy.  And then they also liked to taunt that the teams from the more southerly B12 states would suffer tremendously whilst traveling to Manhappy, because it gets so cold there but their own team would be accustomed to it.

That led ol' Slick to comment that it was fascinating that Kansas was simultaneously the hottest and coldest place on the planet.

And of course the rest of us just piled on for the next couple of decades.
Good ‘ol days. Amazing to think when you say we piled on for a couple of decades you’re being literal.
