While I agree in theory, we have the MW, and it's simply not going away.  My idea is to set it at the highest point it's ever been in history adjusted for inflation, and attach a COLA.

I don't know how much of the going costs of a McDs are labor versus materials and rent etc.  Maybe it's 25%? 

With attitudes like that it won't. But let me ask you, why can't it go away? 

A Fed min wage makes no sense. The cost of living across the country varies so much that it is effectively useless. The cost of living in Huntington West Virginia is no where near the cost of living in San Francisco. So why would the fed worry about the MW being the same in both places? 

Let the states set their own MW and keep the fed out of it. And if a state decides to eliminate it, great. They will either like the results or reinstate a MW if they don't get the desired results. But why should the fed gov't have one? It makes no sense. 

A lot of apparently good ideas just won't happen.  They might be fun to discuss, but the political landscape precludes them from being actionable.  Term limits in Congress is one of them.  A Balanced Budget Amendment is another.  Cutting the size of Federal government is another, aside from maybe some hand waving.  Trump promised to cut two regulations for every new one, sounds great right?  Never happened.  Optics at best.
