One issue I think is that some very public CC "zealots" consistently over state the perils of CC (relative to what the IPCC claims anyway). They keep talking about billions starving, the Arctic being ice free "soon", sea levels swamping NYC, blaming every drought/flood/hurricane/storm on CC, etc., and none of that is really in the offing "soon". So, they lose credibility (duh), which would be fine except the "real CC" (according to the models) is still extant, just very slow. It's still a potential problem, just not one that shows up in a few years decisively.
The Arctic MIGHT be mostly ice free at some point in a decade, maybe. But just because the loudmouths are wrong doesn't itself mean the concept is wrong, they just over state it for dramatic effect and in so doing damage their cause.
