Generally when I am officiating a kid or two each season will catch my eye and I will casually follow him as he moves up the ladder. However, I don't put a lot of effort into it.

My old HS is now a legit college pipeline.  I might catch a game, maybe, but like OAM I"ll probably fall asleep after a week of exhausting posting.

my HC quit between the last week of summer practice and the first week of school (with a game that Friday night) when i was a senior.  Most the team quit too in protest, but most the team came back to play after that first week.  it was some sort of drama with the school board and such- can't recall any of the details even if i ever knew them in the first place.

nobody came out of that school and went anywhere except the junior colleges around who would scoop up anyone just willing to play.

afterward, a coach came in and did really well for the athletes- several went to major D1A/FBS schools- and a few went pro.  One will soon be in the HOF.  Everyone believes that one particular player was perhaps the GOAT from that area, but many would argue otherwise.  I'm one of them.  he's the one who found himself in the program that was ran by a professional at his job and who alerted the right schools- getting him national attention.

.... and this is what my little 'project' is based on- which is attempting to allow players in forgotten area's and far away from any established 'pipeline' to solicit themselves as prospects....

how many of you guys keep track of HS players?  local to you, I mean...
Not really at all anymore. Sometimes I hear about a superstar player and read articles in the local paper, but that's about it.

I feel like if I still lived in Gainesville, and now having a career and ample down time, my familiarity with the HS programs around the state, I'd probably/possibly be big into it.
Without knowing the histories of these programs out in AZ, meh.  It's not as fun I guess.

I do know that Arizona has been good for at least one top 5/top 10 QB recruit annually, though.  It's easy enough to learn who the big-time Phoenix-area football factories are, but I don't know jack about any of the rest of the state, besides the Navajo Rez.

Part of the problem is that there isn't a consolidated hub for high school stats/rankings.  MaxPreps does it some, but their site nags you into spending money so much that it's barely navigatable.  And they rely on random people supplying the stats.  Most times one side provides it and the other side doesn't, so you're left with half-hearted overall stats.
If there was an ESPN.com for high school football, it would get plenty of play.
