Joel Klatt: SEC-B10 scheduling agreement expected once CFP expands to 24

“There are scheduling agreements that are in place once this thing expands officially," Klatt told KTCK-FM 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas on Wednesday. "The next thing that will happen almost immediately is we're going to get scheduling agreements between the SEC and the Big Ten -- top-end matchups, mid-tier matchups, low-end matchups -- and we're going to be expanding the valuable matchups in the non-conference, far surpassing what we have now."
I never liked Joel Klatt specially after CBS made David Berson(an M* Grad) officially took over the helm of CBS Sports as President of the dept. in 2024. There was little if any criticism/inquiring AT ALL about what went down in AA during their "Historic" 40-3, 3yr run. That, after a very pedestrian 5 previous seasons or the ensuing mayhem that followed  he had little offer - great journalism.

Look how full of himself he is as he weaves himself into the narrative "and we're going to be"  good to see that TOP directives will be stamped with his approval. So this is indeed the inside scoop on why CFB has went to hell in a handbasket, what a polluted rube he is

So, a 16-team league and an 18-team league are going to agree to play each other in regular season games that really won't mean much, and then meet in the playoffs to do it again.

If we could get the playoffs to just divide into two brackets to cull each league down to one, all that would be left is to decide which conference gets renamed to NFC and which becomes AFC.

If we HAVE to expand, and nobody thinks we do, here's my thought.  18 teams.  4 best Group of 6 conference champs get autobids, but just in play-in games, and the winners play the #1 and #2 teams, so it's essentially a 14 team tournament, and getting the #1 or #2 seed gives you a de facto byes.  But you can at least "sort of" care about the mid major races

Getting rid of conference title game is a net positive.

It will be like three co-champs that didn't play each other.

More to the point, why wouldn't they go the Notre Dame route, and schedule 9 garbage teams every year, and go 2-1 against the decent teams you play and be comfortably in the playoff?

I rather enjoyed it when my team played in them.

They became meaningless in the 12 team playoff era.  It's like winning the basketball conference tournament

The main thing I lament is loss of interregional games of note.  They are pretty much history now.  UGA had a pretty fun looking future schedule back a couple years, now it's pretty much all going to be canceled.
