Only 4 Texas schools were in the B12 from 1996-2011.  All the rest were in the WAC, MWC, Big West, C-USA, and perhaps some others.

TCU, SMU and Rice all went to the WAC with UTEP initially. Houston went to CUSA.

Forgot about UNT moving up from IAA to join the Big West.

UNT was in the Big West, Sun Belt, and Conference USA over the years.  Now they're in the AAC apparently.

UTSA and Texas State both moved up to D1-A/FBS in 2012, according to the internet.  So the Texas schools are not only fragmented among numerous conferences, but there are also more of them in FBS now, than there were back when the B12 was formed.

The Big West essentially morphed into the Sunbelt.

The final Big West season was 2000, and the first Sunbelt season was 2001, with pretty much the same teams.

Imagine the politickin' back then - Texas Tech and Baylor in, TCU, SMU, and Houston (and others) left out.

I guess a recent death penalty made that an easy call, but if it had all happened 10 years earlier....

Lotta people think it ws Texas governor Ann Richards who pushed Baylor into the B12.  She laughed at the notion, it was never a concern of hers.

It was actually Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock, who held degrees from both Baylor and Texas Tech, who strong-armed the administrations in Austin and College Station into  bringing those two along.  At the time, he was possibly the most powerful Texas politician since LBJ.

And now years later 8 out of 9 members of the SWC ended up in a P4 conference.  All except for Rice.

Tex, Tex A&M, Ark --> SEC
TT, Bay, TCU, Hou --->  Big 12
SMU ---> ACC
Rice --->  American
We are all equal but some are more equal than others.

Rice isn't even good at baseball anymore.
