Small mosquitos got nothing on no-see-ums.
I hate all bug bites, but Chiggers are the absolute worst.  They last for a couple of weeks, and itch and ooze nasty clear fluid.  Although I do know a guy that died as a result of West Nile from a mosquito.  Probably the 2nd best athlete from my little hometown, after Steve Tasker.

Ugh....chiggers.  Got infested with the buggers up to my waist when I was about 7 or 8, it was awful.

They hit the crown jewels, Badger!  The bastards set up camp on the crown jewels!!!

I sure wouldn't.  I only ever got a tick on my shoulder.  Noticed it pretty quick in the shower not long after I got it and managed to claw him out. Fortunately no Lyme disease.

Here in CA I'll often go all summer with no bites.

And hell, that's including the fact that I'm spending a fair bit of time on the golf course where they water the desert...

The absolute, #1 thing that blew my mind moving from FL to AZ....no flying insects.  None.  Especially out in the middle of nowhere.  Glorious!!!

smart asses at a hotel in San Diego were giving me some grief about Iowa having mosquitos and San Diego being mosquito free.

I told them to knock it off or I was gonna bring a gallon far of them on my next visit and let em loose!

Well, Iowa is full of...

...actually, beyond corn and soybeans, I'm not sure.

Is there anything else there?

Well, on behalf of California, I want to say thank Iowa for growing/raising so much of our food.

It really helps us focus on things like inventing the technologies driving the world's future. Tough to do that on an empty stomach!
