What's funnier about it is that it's noon ET, which most of the B1G isn't part of.  So an 11am kickoff for a big game is fucking stupid.

Historically 6 > 4
Now 10 > 8

ABC started putting their big games at 11 AM Central over 20 years ago.  They only occasionally had a primetime game back then.  This is nothing new, at all.

Heck, for four teams in the B1G, that's a 9AM kickoff... Obviously they'd only be on Big Noon Saturday if they're traveling to an eastern time zone team, but that's early for a lot of their fans.

I think it was initially 3:30 in the early 90s.  Then it shifted to primetime in the mid 2000s

Are you sure?

Yes I'm sure.

As AAA pointed out, the national game was at 2:30 central and the regional games were at 11 AM central in the 90s.  Then it reversed in the early 2000s, I once tried to pinopoint it and it was 2003/2004 as I recall.  But it didnt shift to primetime, ABC often didn't have a primetime game back then.  National game was 11 AM, regional games were 2:30, and the occasional big game would be in primetime.

That started over 20 years ago.

I definitely recall primetime was 2:30 PM for the Big 12 and 11 AM was the regional spot.  Amazing, there were a lot of Big 12 games that never made it to TV, including some all-timers between A&M and TT.

Yeah I think a lot of people view college football exposure today, and don't really understand what it was like in the 90s and even early 2000s.  There weren't 20 games on every Saturday.

And back in the 80s, before the cases against the NCAA brought by Oklahoma and Georgia, teams were only allowed to be on TV a max of something like 3 times per year.

It's changed a lot in the past 20 years, and way more than that in the past 40.

So, despite the thread title, it seems more people pay attention to CFB than ever before ...

I suspect the surge in betting has something to do with this.

I think the number of people who follow, but at a shallower level, is higher.

Yeah.  Attendance has been dropping for many years, although it did have a slight uptick last year.

I think attendance had been dropping because of how unaffordable it has become to take a family to a game for the average joe more so than declining interest in the sport, and plus with all the 4K/HDTV channels and nearly every game on TV now it's easier and cheaper to just sit at home and watch the game and place a bet on said game on an app on your iphone.
