Sometimes I wonder if there will come a point in the future, in say 10-20 years where "de-alignment" occurs. Kind of like in the corporate world, where companies merge and split all the time. Warner/HBO/Discovery comes to mind. Which was owned by ATT, which used to be SBC, so forth and so on. My own company has merged and split at least 6 times since I've been here ~20 years. Now they're splitting again. Disney owns ESPN, and ESPN is losing ratings every year. Disney now owns some of Fox (I get confused where they drew the line), as well as ABC. It's entirely plausible that some of these entities get spun out over time and this shakes up the CFB world.
I do wonder if maybe the expanded playoff will somewhat keep this at bay, because even if you can't win your conference maybe you can still win the whole thing so winning the conference becomes less and less important. I know we've discussed this multiple times but it still warrants revisiting.
I think we all agree that we lost something with the expanded conferences and multiple rounds of realignment.
If College Football is truly owned by corporate interests now, I think this outcome is inevitable.
