California's water issues are...complicated. The middle and northern parts of the Central Valley have also been referred to as the inland sea, which were (and frequently are) well supplied by Sierra Nevada snowmelt (from those hills that don't exist). Historically, much of it does get a fair amount of water. The problem is the biggest part of the state's population lives in a place that doesn't have much natural water, so it gets it by shipping it from elsewhere--both northern California and the Colorado River. I think--if I recall correctly--California is actually very productive per farming acre, so it's not merely a big state; it's a big state with very productive farm land.

That was my point.  No idea what the Buckeye is talking about with the hills and such.  My point wasn't hills, it was that TEXAS hill country isn't farmland.  It's all rock under the 1/8 inch of topsoil.  I've seen big farms in hilly California regions, in my limited visits there, so I assume the hills don't negate farmable square acreage there.

Well there isn't much water left in Lake Mead. It's down to 33% of its full capacity.
Hmm... I wouldn't have thought that, with all the rain we've been getting... But looking at it it's lower at this time of year than any year in the last six, with the exception of 2023.

Has our rain not been making its way that far east? CA is now out of drought and we've got another big soaker coming in a few days...

Eligibility duration limitations simply aren't going to hold up in court.  The athletes have not signed a collective bargaining agreement that would sign away their rights to remain on campus, and therefore they retain those rights as long as university policy allows.

It would make my blackened, Ole-Miss-hating heart happy if he now portal'd to LSU :57:

I mean, if we're gonna break the sport, at least it should be funny.

Wonder how quickly it'll come out that Judge Whitwell is a donor to Ole Miss, or just a really big Ole Miss fan?

The NCAA is undefeated against Wisconsin on this issue.

I'm guessing the court can easily dismiss university policy as well.

That's another very expensive way to do it.

Cruise ships use it for long voyages across oceans and such. I can always tell when they switch from fresh water (filled at the port) to desalinated water.
the ice cubes taste different? ;)

Y'all need better lawyers.  Pretty much everyone else is whipping the snot out of the NCAA.

This is potentially true and if so, it could set some unwanted predecents for "normal" students to hang around a lot longer than the university might want.  Slippery slope stuff here, for sure, and the universities should proceed with caution in challenging this stuff in court, lest unintended consequences come back to bite them in the arse.

Yeah that's a good point.  University missions have changed from education to monetization, so they're AOK with folks sticking around as long as they're paying.

Can vouch ~???

I can tell you first hand that in front and above of all the other goals, noble as some may be, is the ever-increasing headcount.  Our budgets and annual cost-of-living raises depend on it.  All TSUS schools operate that way, and I suspect probably so do the UT, A&M, and Texas Tech system schools.

We exist to get bigger.
