winning a 12 or 16 team playoff more seasons than not is unlikely
So far only one team has pulled it off.

Under the old way of doing things, he may well have done it pretty often.

But he's admitted that he didn't like the new NIL/xfer landscape, and probably recognized that roster management was not only going to be harder, but it was a lot more hassle than he wanted to deal with, especially at his age, with his accomplishments.  I don't blame him for riding off into the sunset more or less on top.  The final Michigan loss notwithstanding, I mean.

I think it's silly to say that "Texas drove him out."

But I do think he recognized the changing landscape of college football, and didn't think he would be able to excel under the new conditions.  So he exited.
I've kinda had this thought in the back of my mind that Saban simply elected to "retire" for 2-5 years while all this NIL/Pay the Players scheme gets somewhat sorted out, and then he will move back into CFB at a program that has the resources to compete at the top.  It's been repeated here that Alabama will not have the resources to compete at the top of the new NIL landscape, so this will give him a chance to see which programs do have the resources, wait for the right opportunity, and then get back in.  It's kinda like what Urban Meyer did with his whole UF-->Media-->OSU stint.

Saban did not want to wait for Bama to start going 9-5 or *shocker* 8-4 before he left, so he left while they were still pretty good to keep his legacy intact.  I guess the main question is how much fire will he have left at 70+ years old, we will find out.

Nah.  I don't see Saban going Big 10, unless it was OSU or Michigan.  And even then I'm not sure.  He already coached at MSU, hes originally from WV.

I could maybe see him at UF, OU, UTenn, UTex, or A&M.  I have a feeling he wouldn't ever end up at A&M due to the bad blood he had with A&M/Fisher around 2021.  Most likely I see him going to Florida, it's close enough to his old stomping ground in Alabama and Florida is what I call a 21BB (21st Century Blue Blood).

The other one that is very interesting is LSU.  I only left it off the list because he already coached there and chose to leave.  But it really makes sense that he would go back to LSU since LSU is also a 21BB, but I have no idea of their NIL/PFP capabilities.  I wouldn't think they would be better than Bama.

It's also possible Bama will be able to scrape together enough $$$ to be in the Top Ten of NIL/PFP and he would return there.  I have no idea about the financial capabilities of Bama the school and their alumni.  It may simply be a case that even though they as an organization don't have as much, their alumni and fans are willing to shell out more money than others to win.

It also occurs to me that the NY Yankees outspend all the other MLB teams year after year, or at least they used to, and yet they do not win the WS every single year.

I don't think UF, LSU and Bama are rich in NIL.

NIL in the SEC are the Texas schools, Tennessee and Georgia from what I can tell/read/hear.

Why would NIL in Tennessee and Georgia (population about 5 million) be bigger than Florida (pop 20+ million) or LSU (pop 5 million)?

Texas and A&M, I get it.  I would think NIL would be Texas, A&M, Florida, Bama, OU, Georgia, Tennessee, and then the rest like Ole Miss, Arkansas, etc.

Yes, Florida has a big population, but a lot of us are not from Florida, let alone care about UF.

They also have to share with Miami, FSU and to a lesser extent, UCF (Big 12 member now).

If I'm donating, my money is headed to Madison.

Georgia and Tennessee have very large concentrations of their own alumni, from my limited experience.

Alabama is NIL-poor and likely always will be, unless they luck into some freshly minted new billionaire the way Texas Tech did.

Yeah, they are still blazing on the recruiting trail but not exactly killing it in the portal ($). They lost two 4* transfers to Michigan and one each to Nebraska, Kentucky, Vandy and Colorado.

Alabama is a storied program and still has a lot to sell, and not every recruitment is 100% NIL-focused.  If they continue winning, they'll still recruit well.  But they're not going to be able to compete with the top NIL schools and we're already seeing that manifest.

When this all ends, I envision one league with 16-20 schools, due to NIL.

Oregon, USC, UM, OSU and PSU are in from the B1G. Maybe IU and UNL.

Tennessee, Texas, aTm, OU, and Georgia from the SEC. Maybe Arky and UF.

OU is NIL-poor as well.  Not sure why, seems like they should have oil money,  but they just don't.
