First class domestic isn't nearly like first class overseas, Delta One, full recline, your own bed ...
So I've heard... I've only experienced domestic, and it was SO much better than coach that I can only imagine what international is like...

France is open to folks vaccinated June 9.  I priced tickets ATL-> CDG in Oct to check.

$1,135 economy ( a good price really, but odds are good you'll be near screaming kids)
$1,303  economy comfort (we usually choose this level)
$1,645 premium select (this is about like first class domestic, or business class in the olden times)
$4,253 Delta One (this usually is over $5K, I've seen in the sevens)

A reason to upgrade some, aside from leg room, is to get away from kids.  Prices are relatively low right now.

I booked Hawaii a month ago in Dec. and first class tickets were $1650 or so, that is the normal economy class fare.  This is domestic FC, not Delta One, goes through LAX.

Were I wealthy, I'd just blow the extra $3K times 2 and not worry about it.  But I always think "Man, I could do stuff with the extra $5k ...

We do economy comfort going to France.  I'm looking at a trip to SE Asia and the wife wants the full monte, which is pricey.

I would go premium select maybe and tell her it's first class.  Ha.

These expensive French trophy wives ....:)

The premium economy seats we booked to Munich are like what used to be business. On American, there are only two seats next to each other on the sides, which I like.

I was pretty happy 5 years ago when I hit a million. Now I'm happier.

I could not even fathom being a billionaire. Or even getting to $10 Mil. Not happening.
I hit a million last year.

and I live comfortably on less than 50K a year
us humble poor dirt farmer types don't think much about in-house cooks and maids and first class traveling

In a good location, one can live nicely on $50 K a year if your domicile is paid for.  My SS payment each month is sizeable too.

I realize I paid a ton into it over the years.

house has been paid for more than 7-8 years

vehicles have been paid for more than 5 years

no debt is important to me

looking forward to cashing my first SS check, but that might not be for close to ten years.  Gotta try to live that long.

You are in great shape then.  It helps enormously to have manageable expectations.

You may find you have more than you figured after retirement in a few years and be able to think about some things you dreamt about doing.

When you say a million, how do you mean?

I'd say a million in net worth means you passed a million, counting your house and a few other items, could be just your retirement portfolio also depending.

Part of how much you need to retire comfortably is how old you are when you retire, aside from living expenses.

The problem of course is that a regular IRA is pretax, it might not be worth the same as a million dollars after tax.

The tax man wants his share.
